World Hearing Day: Not all challenges are easy to see

3rd March 2024

What’s World Hearing Day?

World Hearing Day is a time when people around the world focus on how important it is to take care of our hearing and help those who have trouble hearing. This year, we’re talking about how everyone deserves to hear well, and reminding people that not all disabilities are easy to spot, like hearing problems.

World Hearing Day

Invisible disabilities

Some disabilities, like hearing loss, aren’t obvious but can make life really tough. People might not realise someone is struggling because they can’t see the problem. When someone can’t hear well, it can make it hard for them to talk to others and get the help they need.

How Chichester District Foodbank helps

At the Chichester District Foodbank, we help lots of people, including those who find it hard to hear. We do more than just give out food; we make sure everyone feels welcome and can get help in a way that works for them. We’ve made our place friendly for people with hearing loss so they can get the support they need without stress.

Why it matters

You might wonder what hearing has to do with getting enough food. Well, if someone has a hard time hearing, it can be scary to ask for help or even know where to find it. We’re here to make sure everyone knows they can come to us, no matter what challenges they’re facing.

Listening helps

The most important thing we do is listen. Understanding what people need, especially those who struggle in ways we can’t see, helps us make a big difference. We’re asking our community to listen too and help out, so we can make sure everyone gets the support they need.

Join us

This World Hearing Day, why not get involved? Learn more, volunteer at the foodbank, or just tell others about how important it is to support people with hearing loss and other invisible challenges. Let’s make sure nobody is left out because their struggle isn’t obvious.
