Celebrating a decade of dedication with Clare

28th February 2024

Since opening our doors over a decade ago, Chichester District Foodbank has seen incredible growth and change, thanks in no small part to the hard work and dedication of volunteers like Clare. Joining us in 2014, just two years after we started, Clare has been an instrumental part of our journey, bringing her passion and expertise to various roles within our organisation.

Originally from London, Clare moved closer to family and the sailing waters of Bosham, a move that not only brought her closer to loved ones but also led her to the foodbank. Her background working with mothers and daughters groups in London provided a strong foundation for the compassionate and impactful work she would continue in Chichester.

Over the years, Clare has lent her talents to the warehouse, packing, deliveries, reception, and signposting, touching virtually every aspect of our operations. “In the warehouse, you see the immediate impact of your work, knowing the food you pack goes out the same day,” Clare shares. However, it’s signposting that holds a special place in her heart. “I love to listen and help people. It’s about making a deeper connection and offering support beyond the food parcel.”

The challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic marked a particularly memorable period for Clare and the foodbank. Amid the uncertainty and fear, Clare and her fellow volunteer Alison formed a bubble to continue packing and delivering emergency food parcels to those in isolation, a testament to their commitment and bravery during such a critical time.

Clare’s experience working with children has made her especially passionate about our Kids Lunch Packs program, ensuring that children who usually receive free school lunches are well-fed over the holidays. “It’s getting harder as donations have been dwindling,” she notes, highlighting the increasing need for community support to maintain these essential services.

This July, Clare is channelling her incredible energy and dedication into organising the Bosham Village Fete on Saturday, 13th July, where Chichester District Foodbank will proudly be hosting a stall. It’s a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together and have fun.

We’re incredibly lucky to have Clare as part of our foodbank family. Her decade of service has not only seen her make an immediate impact through her daily tasks but also leave a lasting imprint on the lives of those we serve. Join us in thanking Clare for her remarkable dedication and be sure to support the Bosham Village Fete – a celebration of community spirit and the power of giving back.

Clare, here’s to ten years and many more to come. You truly embody the spirit of community and compassion that drives us all at Chichester District Foodbank. Thank you for everything you do!
