Walking for wellbeing: join us on Thursdays in Petworth

May is National Walking Month, so it felt like a fitting time to launch our new Walking for Wellbeing group in partnership with Chichester District Council’s Social Prescribers and HeartSmart Walks.

The group has now been running for two weeks and we’ve had a really lovely start, with friendly conversation, gentle walking, fresh air, and thankfully some sunshine too.

We meet every Thursday at 10am at Petworth Library for a relaxed walk, followed by complimentary tea and biscuits afterwards. The walk is gentle and welcoming, and there is no pressure to walk quickly or be especially fit. It is simply a chance to get outside, move a little, and spend time with others.

We know that many people who use our food bank are also dealing with other challenges, including physical or mental health difficulties, stress, loneliness or isolation. Walking can be a simple way to support wellbeing. The NHS highlights that regular physical activity can help improve mood, sleep and energy levels, as well as supporting physical health.

Just as importantly, walking together can help people build confidence, make connections and feel part of the local community. That is why we’re so pleased to be able to offer something regular and easy to come along to.

We’ve already had some great feedback from those who have joined us so far, and we’d love to see more people come along.

Please join us any Thursday at 10am outside Petworth Library. Whether you’d like some fresh air, gentle exercise, good company, or just a cup of tea afterwards, you’ll be very welcome.
