Deliciously simple smoky bonfire night beans recipe

20th October 2024

Smoky bonfire night beans is a hearty, warming dish that’s perfect for cosying up on chilly autumn evenings. Not only are they packed with flavour, but they’re also incredibly affordable and easy to make, especially when using tinned beans – an item we often receive as donations at Chichester District Foodbank.

Here’s a simple recipe to bring a little bonfire night smokiness to your table!

Ingredients

  • 1 can of mixed beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 can of chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Method

Sauté the Onion:

Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook for about 5 minutes, until soft.

Add smoky flavour:

Stir in the smoked paprika and cook for one minute to release its flavour.

Combine and simmer:

Add the chopped tomatoes and drained beans to the pan. Stir everything together and let it simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and the beans are heated through.

Serve and enjoy:

Season with salt and pepper if needed. Serve hot with bread or over a baked potato for a simple, hearty meal.

Making your own smoky beans at home is a great way to incorporate more plant-based meals into your diet while keeping costs low. This simple, tasty dish is not only easy to prepare but is also a delicious way to enjoy a nutritious and satisfying dish. Whether you’re enjoying them around a bonfire or at your dinner table, these beans will be a hit with everyone!
