On Monday 24th March, Chichester District Foodbank successfully opened the doors of its new premises, located on Quarry Lane industrial estate, Chichester.
Since September 2012 we have been so fortunate to have had the church hall in Orchard Street; however, due to the ever increasing demand for our services from the community, we needed a larger space. The new warehouse on Quarry Lane better suits our operational needs and will help to improve our functionality.
The demand for emergency food parcels and essentials has tripled since we moved into St. John’s Hall in 2014. Last year, we provided over 6,000 food parcels, with 37% of those going to children. As the cost of living remains high, our services are increasingly needed, reflected in a 3% rise in food vouchers issued in the past six months compared to the same period in 2023. We are currently preparing over 1,000 kids’ lunch packs to ensure that children receiving free school meals don’t go hungry during the Easter holidays.
The new premises consolidates our food bank centre and warehouse into one location. This change will help us offer tailored support and create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone who visits. Bringing everything under one roof will also streamline operations and eliminate the need to transport food between locations.
The move has provided an opportunity to enhance our services due to it being a dedicated area as opposed to a shared space we previously were using. The larger space allows increased food storage and better management of the stock to better meet our community’s needs. Alongside the primary support we offer, the new space allows us to expand on our services, such as client participation groups, with a more comfortable space as well as private areas for personal support to gain a better understanding of our clients’ needs.
Monday’s opening was seamless and ran smoothly and we would like to thank everyone involved in making this transition possible. So, ‘Thank You’, we have been overwhelmed with support from volunteers who offered their time to get the premises ready for our doors to open on Monday.
The address of the new premises is:
Unit 10, Chichester Trade Centre, Quarry Lane, Chichester, PO19 8ET.
Our warehouse is located just off the A259 (Bognor Road), near to the large roundabout, with easy access to the A27, next door to the Quarry Lane branch of Halfords.
