Stand Stronger Together: Nutrition and Hydration Week

Did you know that a good diet and plenty of fluids are beneficial for your joints and muscles?  This week, our Stand Stronger Together group celebrated Nutrition and Hydration Week, in collaboration with Waterhaven Place, Chichester, and turned their hand to making healthy snacks that were high in energy and low in cost, made from scratch.

There were conversations and information on hand as to why it’s important to stay hydrated and eat well, and why it’s good for your joints and muscles. A useful water tracker was given to attendees to help increase awareness on how much (or little) they are drinking on a daily basis, and the best part was tasting the variety of healthy snacks the group had made.

Henry, a regular attendee, said “It was a different kind of session today.  I enjoyed making the bars and cupcakes and it was interesting to listen to what Steven from Connaught Care had to say about the benefits of eating high energy foods, which aren’t expensive to buy”.

Maria, another attendee, also learnt new skills. “I enjoyed the meeting on nutrition and hydration very much. We were shown how to make nutritional balls with oats and honey and different toppings – I chose white chocolate as I had put milk chocolate in the balls. We also made a fruit and fibre cookie with dark chocolate, raisins, and dried cranberries mixed in with cornflakes. This session was informative and fun. We were given a chart to see how much water we drank every day, over a week and there was bottled water to take home. This has made me realise how little water I drink. I will try to rectify this. The group at the food bank is always informative however this one stood out to me. Even if we are on a tight budget, we can still try to live a healthy life. Drinking water more often is something we can all do at little cost to us.”
