As Easter approaches, Chichester District Foodbank is preparing to pack essential Kids Lunch Packs to distribute to children across the district. Our goal is to ensure no child goes hungry during the holiday break.
This Easter, we’ll pack around 1,000 lunch packs, each filled with a ten-day supply of lunch items and store cupboard essentials. But we can’t make this happen without your support. Can you help?
What are Kids Lunch Packs?
Our Kids Lunch Packs provide nutritious meals for children who rely on free school meals but face hunger during the holidays. Each pack contains enough food for ten lunches. We distribute around 1,000 packs each year before Easter, Summer, and Christmas to families in need, reaching approximately 1 in 3 children eligible for free school meals in the Chichester district.
The impact of hunger
Government data shows that 17% of children in the UK live in food-insecure households. Research demonstrates that children who are hungry struggle to focus, learn, and thrive. By supporting our Kids Lunch Packs initiative, you can help ensure children in our community receive the nutrition they need to grow, learn, and succeed.
How you can help
We rely on the generosity of our community to provide food for our Kids Lunch Packs and there are various ways you can help support us:
Donating food
You can donate food directly to our food bank or order items from our Amazon Wishlist. Or maybe you would prefer to host a collection at your school, workplace, church or community group.
For our Kids Lunch Packs we need items such as:
- Breakfast cereal
- Cooking sauces
- Hot chocolate, squash, UHT milk and fruit juice
- Jam, peanut butter and marmite
- Rice and pasta
- Tinned custard, rice pudding or sponges
- Tins of fruit and vegetables
- Tins of meat and fish
- Toothbrushes and toothpaste
- Treats and lunchbox snacks
Donating financially
Each lunch pack costs approximately £30. A financial contribution can help us cover the costs of these boxes, and any contribution no matter how small is gratefully received. You can find out more about making a financial donation on our website here.
Feedback from families we have helped
Feedback from those who have benefited from our Kids Lunch Packs initiative highlights the significant impact it makes:
- “I am disabled, and life can be really hard, but these packs take a bit of the load off. They truly help and mean so much to us.”
- “This was my first time using the Kids Lunch Packs scheme, and I was blown away by the boxes we received. They really helped me through a tight spot. Thank you!”
Thank you so much for your support. Together, we can make sure no child goes hungry during the holidays.
