Bites on a Budget: Learn to cook affordable, healthy, and tasty meals

Chichester District Foodbank is excited to introduce Bites on a Budget, a 4-week pilot cookery course in February, designed to help you create quick, easy, and affordable meals that are anything but boring! The recipes have been created by professional chef Anton Korolenko, who will also be leading the sessions.
What you’ll get out of it
- Learn practical cookery skills from Anton Korolenko, Head Chef at Waterhaven Place Care Home.
- Learn how to turn everyday ingredients into delicious, healthy, and budget-friendly meals, including:
- Food bank staples (e.g. rice, pasta, tinned goods)
- Store cupboard essentials
- Affordable fresh fruits and vegetables
- Create simple meals that are full of variety. Ingredients will be priced – to help you budget.
- Enjoy eating your creations during the session.
- When: Four Wednesdays in February 2025 – 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th.
- Time: 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM
- Where: Swanfield Community Centre, 46 Swanfield Drive, Chichester, PO19 6GH
- Spaces: Limited to 6 participants – sign up quickly to secure your space!
- Led by: Chef Anton Korolenko, volunteering his expertise to help you cook with confidence.

- Improve their cooking skills.
- Make quick, nutritious and affordable meals.
- Get creative with food bank ingredients and low-cost fresh produce.
Commitment & feedback
- To get the full benefit, we ask participants to attend all 4 sessions. As a thank you, we’ll give you a £20 shopping voucher.
- We’ll also ask for follow-up feedback (by phone, email or face-to-face) to help us assess the course and improve future sessions.

*About Anton Korolenko, Head Chef at Waterhaven Place Care Home
Anton Korolenko, originally from Latvia, has over 21 years of culinary experience in hotels, restaurants and care homes. A graduate of the Alpine Swiss School in Athens with a degree in Culinary Arts Management, Anton is passionate about cooking and excited to bring creativity to preparing budget-friendly meals.
