Seaford College steps up to combat child hunger

10th April 2024

In an inspiring display of community support and compassion, Seaford College has once again risen to the occasion, reinforcing its commitment to combating child hunger in partnership with Chichester District Foodbank through the Kids Lunch Pack scheme.

The Kids Lunch Pack initiative is a cornerstone of our efforts to ensure that children from families on low incomes do not go hungry during the school holidays. These critical times – Summer, Easter, and Christmas – are particularly challenging for families who rely on free school meals during the term. Seaford College’s involvement has been nothing short of transformative, providing essential food supplies that bridge the gap and prevent holiday hunger.

Since 2019, Seaford College’s generosity has been overwhelming, contributing a remarkable 30,289 kilos of food to support children facing poverty within the Chichester District. This year, the college has taken a step further, pledging to prepare 400 food parcels for each of the major school holidays, ensuring these essential supplies reach our distribution points in Midhurst, Petworth, and Chichester.

The need for our Kids Lunch Pack scheme has never been more acute, with families across our community feeling the squeeze of the rising cost of living. In 2023, we were able to support 2,833 children, reflecting a significant 36% increase compared to the previous year. The dedication and support from Seaford College have been instrumental in our ability to respond to this unprecedented surge in demand.

We are profoundly grateful for Seaford College’s unwavering commitment to preventing holiday hunger and supporting children in need. Their ongoing partnership is a testament to the power of community collaboration in tackling hunger and poverty.

As we look to the future, we are excited to continue working hand in hand with Seaford College and other community partners. Together, we are making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families in the Chichester District, moving us closer to our shared goal of ending hunger and poverty.

To everyone at Seaford College, we extend our heartfelt thanks. Your contributions are truly making a world of difference.
