Free Family Holiday Events: Supporting Families Through Food and Fun

14th October 2024

With the rising cost of living, school holidays can be particularly challenging for families, especially when it comes to keeping kids entertained and well-fed. That’s why our free family events across the Chichester district are so important, offering not only fun activities but also valuable support during tough times.

Our events feature activities like arts and crafts and healthy snack-making workshops – a chance for families to learn skills that are fun, easy, and affordable to try at home. As one parent, Melissa from Emsworth, shared: “With the cost of living, trying to find things that are free for the kids is hard. This is a brilliant event.”

To ensure every family has the opportunity to participate, we rotate our events across Chichester, Midhurst, Selsey, and Petworth. Recent events include:

  • Flipfest in Petworth
  • Midhurst Munchies in Midhurst
  • Picnic in the Park in Chichester
  • Autumn Fun in Selsey

Children benefit from hands-on experiences that encourage creativity and teamwork. Joshua, aged 13, said: “I’ve really loved being here because we’ve done a lot of activities, got to draw on pumpkins, and made great food that tastes really good. I hope we get to come again.”

While some children receive free school meals during term time, holiday hunger is a reality for many. We understand the value of offering free activities for local families, providing a space to connect whilst showing that healthy food can be affordable and tasty.

Parents receive useful resources on budgeting and holiday stress relief, ensuring families can make the most of the experience even after the event.

These events are organised by Keely Storey, our Campaigns Coordinator.
