On Friday 6th June we ran a Bites on a Budget session in Midhurst with Waterhaven Place Care Home’s head chef, Anton Korolenko.
These free cookery sessions are designed to educate how to turn everyday ingredients (typical of a foodbank emergency food parcel) into delicious, healthy and budget-friendly meals.
For this session, participants were taught how to cook a creamy chickpea and paprika soup, vegetable and bean stroganoff, and fruit crumble with homemade custard.
The session went down a treat and the feedback has been extremely positive. One attendee said “I enjoyed making the crumble and the custard from scratch. It was a lovely experience learning from a chef and meeting other people doing it. I would like to do something like this with my children helping and learning new things”.
Another remarked the session to be “very useful and helpful”, stating “I’m self employed and a carer to my daughter. It’s a really good course, highly organised and with a good chef to help us learn. Highly recommend.”
The group really enjoyed the session, saying the “staff are friendly, I love it” and “I really did enjoy this class. As a full time care giver to my daughter, it has given me some new skills”.
