Highlights from our picnic in the park

22nd August 2024

We’re excited to share the highlights from our recent ‘Picnic in the Park’ event, which took place in the serene setting of The Apple Orchard at Oaklands Park, just behind Chichester Festival Theatre. It was a fantastic morning full of laughter, games, tasty food, and a strong sense of community.

A spread of delicious food

Our attendees brought food along to share and our wonderful volunteer, Denise, provided an array of healthy snacks and treats; from homemade hummus to tasty tray bakes. The team at Waterhaven Place, a brand new Chichester-based care home, put on a fantastic spread of canapes and cakes too.

Activities for the kids

Our children’s activities were a big hit, especially the face painting station where kids were transformed into their favourite animals and characters. Apple bobbing provided lots of fun, and tin can alley and hoopla added a bit of friendly competition, with prizes for those who hit the mark. Pebble painting was also popular, with lots of creativity on display!

Health and wellbeing support

Health Advisors from the Prevention Assessment Team at West Sussex County Council offered free blood pressure checks; a great way to help identify any cardiovascular health issues and get advice. Our volunteer, Bob, was also on hand to provide first aid assistance if needed.

Hannah from Chichester District Council’s Supporting You Team was available to answer questions about how to access a wide range of support, from employment to budgeting advice.

A free event full of community spirit

In these tough times when costs are increasing, it was wonderful to host an event that was entirely free and focused on bringing people together. Picnic in the Park offered a much-needed opportunity for relaxation and connection in a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.
