Tesco Summer donation bags initiative

We are pleased to announce an exciting new initiative by Tesco Extra Chichester to help boost donations to Chichester District Foodbank over the summer holidays. For the next few  weeks, Tesco will be running a special scheme designed to make it easier for customers to contribute essential items we are currently short of.

How the initiative works

From Monday 22 July, Tesco store colleagues and Community Champions will display a selection of items alongside donation bags on the Off-Fixture Display Unit. These bags can be filled with items that customers can purchase and donate directly in-store. Once the items have been scanned at the till, customers will be encouraged to place the donation bag straight into the designated collection point. If the bags can be reused, the store will refill them and continue using the display unit.

Key items for donation

The shopping list includes:

• Biscuits & Treats 
• UHT milk
• Tinned meat
• Tinned fish
• Tinned vegetables
• Instant mash/tinned potatoes
• Tinned fruit
• Coffee/tea/hot chocolate
• Long life juice
• Cooking sauces
• Rice/pasta
• Tinned puddings (custard, rice, sponge puddings, jelly)
• Toiletries (loo roll, shower gel, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant)

The support from Tesco Extra Chichester is truly amazing and will significantly help us meet the needs of our community during the summer holidays, a time when demand for foodbank services often increases. This initiative provides an excellent opportunity for everyone to contribute and make a real difference in the lives of those facing food insecurity.
